Where You Been Niq?

It’s amazing that since doing this challenge, not blogging/tweeting/instagramming for the past 5 days, has made me feel like I fell off the planet. I used to not blog for a month and barely notice. Well, I took a much needed vacation and even though I am still participating in the #31WriteNow challenge, I felt like I deserved a much needed break from everything.

Sometimes we take vacas and we only take breaks from parts of our life, like our day jobs, but what about the other parts of our life that although may be fun also may call for a break?

I feel like this break has renewed my excitement for blogging, working, homelife and my future. I feel like I can take on the world now. During my flight, I had time to start reading The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss which has definitely added to my renewed spirit. I will let you know more of my thoughts on the book later when I finish it.

So where did I go on my trip? I went to Miami Beach. This was my second time being to Miami and the last time I visited was about 10 years ago. This trip had me thinking: “Why don’t I visit Miami more often?” Miami has both the quiet and the poppin’ (my trip focused more on the quiet hence why I can feel reenergized and not exhausted).

I also stayed at Canyon Ranch which is a Health & Wellness Spa, which was simultaneously luxurious and also a reminder of the simple pleasures in life like taking care of your body and getting some peace and quiet.

Anyway, I have lots of things I am excited to blog about but of course I still want to continue some of the weekly posts I do such as Turn Up Tuesday (which I will post tomorrow) and look of the week. Therefore I may try to fit in two of each this week.

Today Was an Improvement

Yesterday was a rough day for me. I felt so out of control and trapped in.

Every once in awhile it gets like that. I feel like my life is a reflection of my circumstances not my choices.
So I prayed about it and took sometime to think. I understood that this was how I was feeling in this moment and that there are alot of things I control. I figured why didn’t I just go through my head and list all the decisions I had made that day big and small.

I was kind of shocked at how much and how quickly this worked. I fell asleep comfortably within minutes.

I decided to get out of bed.

I decided to go to work.

When I woke up in the morning, as I did each task I thought about how those were all choices that I made.

I realized later on in the day that I was heading down the right path when a friend discussed with me the importance of taking control of my life.

I guess I should have titled this blog control but that’s kinda corny.

This is definitely a process and today was filled with its own ups and down but it definitely wasn’t yesterday.

Turn Up Tuesday 8.13.13

I’ve been able to take or leave the recent Drake releases but this one I’ve been bumping. I guess I should warn you this song has explicit content and it ain’t the edited version. Oh and it has a Aziz Ansari sample.

Fitness Updates

So you know how I stated here that I was working on living a healthier lifestyle?
Well full disclosure, I’ve been doing pretty well with exercising and stretching. The food part I’m still working on. I think the exercise part is easier because you immediately feel better after you exercise but eating better doesn’t have that instant gratification.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to study more about being healthy and I find it to be helpful. One blog that has been helping me do that is Fitsugar.com. It gives me a great variety of articles about exercise, healthy eating, and decreasing stress. The posts are¬†straight and to the point.¬†They are often filled with simple things that busy people can do to improve their lifestyle.¬†Does anyone know any other healthy lifestyle blogs? I would love to read others.

Look of the Day 8.10.13

See where to get this look here. Definitely going to try to recreate this look.

ABC (A Bey Cut)

So I must admit that when I first heard about Beyonce’s haircut, I did’n’t really care. I saw it, thought it was cute, but didn’t really see the big hooplah (Big Beyonce fan, just not that interested in her hair). Another day, another celeb hairstyle. Reading this made it a little more interesting.

I think its great that somebody finally said having five pounds of weave/wig and not being onstage is kind of insane (ok those are my words not their’s). I feel like every once in awhile, yes it may be a bit loud, I can understand. However, if you constantly look like Beyonce pre-haircut, isn’t that a little strange? I’m glad Beyonce’s hairstylist can agree.

Day 9 #31WriteNow

Ten Things I Believe

1. All people have some good in them.
2. Confidence can take you further than most other qualities.
3. You should not wear leather in the summertime. (Sorry fashionistas)
4. Our generation will do something special.
5. We make our lives harder than they have to be.
6. When people don’t love you, you have to seek out the people who do.
7. Working smart is more important than simply working hard.
8. People should not be pressured into having children.
9.Loyalty is vintage (cc: @brookandthecity)
10. Sugar, preservatives, and high fructose corn syrup are extremely addictive.

What a random assortment of beliefs I have? I actually have a lot more than¬†ten but I guess my bonus belief is everything has a time and a place. ūüėČ

Links I Love 8.7.13

It’s Day 7 and let’s just say…bloggin ain’t easy. I have plenty of ideas of what I want to blog about just not enough time to put¬†the¬†time and energy¬†I want¬†into blogging about some of those subjects properly. ¬†There is time to write but time to embed, find pictures and format…not so much. So in the meantime, in between time here are my favorite links from this past week. I’ll do better tomorrow y’all.

Turn Up Tuesday 8.6.13

Happy Tuesday!

I love this song and almost every song I’ve heard from Tinashe. This song is tbe perfect summer jam. If you haven’t heard her music before, she has two mixtapes out, In Case We Die and Reverie. Might as well give it a try. Who doesn’t love free music?
